Hi all
So as you all know, I have put a lot of research into the sub FAQ and I'm quite aware that no one reads it, and some people pretend to.
So how can the state of affairs be improved? People mostly refuse to say where they formed their misconceptions (though I suspect it's mostly YouTube), and mostly refuse to do the reading or even have their preconceptions challenged.
What can this sub do to be a better place for information, education and discussion for everyone?
I don't know, that's why I want ideas!
The FAQ link should be disguised as the submit a post button.
LOL!! Great idea!
I read it...
People need to stop reading deep-web related creepypastas and coming here to ask about how to get to the stuff.
Yea that's what brought me here and I've also read most of those articles.
I completely agree. Obviously very few people read it, even the super basic one I posted got down voted enough times and everything I posted in it was tried and true and to the point lol.
This has been said before, but I think that part of the problem is that this sub has a misconstrued identity. It's called deep web but is about the dark web, that in itself probably confuses a lot of the inexperienced. Subs like r/tor, r/onions, r/darknetmarkets - even the fiction based subs - have an identity. Is this a place for experienced "DW'ers" to come and discuss topics? Is it a place for noobs to come and get questions answered? Is it a free for all regarding the DW? All of the above?
but the dark and deep web are undeniably interconnected and entwined. deep web is like the meta-concept behind it all, dont you agree?
I respectfully disagree, the comment/link u/Deku-shrub made is why.
if people dont wanna learn the truth then they wont. you can lead a horse to the water but you cant make it drink.
I watched your presentation on youtube. maybe one way would be to advertise your educational material directly in here. youtube bound people love to click direct links like that.
For various reasons I am trying to keep a low profile right now, but I'll likely get around to to :)
bloke, you're not exactly anonymous...
Give everyone flairs?
Flairs must be earned!
Or, if someone wants to suggest a theme on the other hand...
Agreed. I've worked hard for my flair.
Me too. (Not really.)
In all seriousness I think it would be worthwhile to put actual frequently asked questions at the very beginning in the FAQ, since it seems 90% of questions asked have simple and straight forward answers.
I'll take suggesting for ordering/wording/formatting :)
Separate the Wiki and FAQ. Use the very basic one I posted (if you'd like) but proper it up, add some info regarding VMs and the like, and add references. Boom.
The majority of noobs and one post wonders aren't going to read a thesis paper disguised as a FAQ however (which was why the one I posted in frustration was short and to the point).
Misinform-er...
I just want to apologize for being "that" person. I couldn't find the faq. I'm new to reddit so I'm sorry for pissing everyone off.
There is a link in the post... Here it is, though.
Maybe you could :D:D:D:DD :::DDD I'm
Create fake posts that are either redirect you the FAQ link or a actual post spammed with the link for the FAQ with titles like "Red Room Found Proof!"
Anyone know any vendors/sites that do counterfeit pound notes
By the way deku-shrub, I read through the whole FAQ, and I want to say, thanks for writing it! It was very helpful.
I know that I sometimes link to my blog on here, but I really want to be one of the truth-seekers, and not spread more dark web myths!
No problem. I follow your blog too from time to time :)
Aww, thanks! I actually just wrote a post intending to debunk red rooms. Hopefully no one kidnaps and kills me.
Hello... I'm new to reddit and a bit late to the discussion I see but maybe you can create kind of an "introduce yourself" sub and pin it like you did the FAQ? Maybe that way all the same questions you're encountering will filter into there? I'll admit I'm a newbie myself... I'm getting pretty much all the info I need through the FAQ and all the posts. That being said I'm really thankful to have found this subreddit in my research on the deep web... instead of reading or watching scary warnings on the danger of the deep web I feel I'm getting the reality of it here. I haven't downloaded TOR or anything yet - I wanted to get a complete picture of it and up until a few days ago when I found this subreddit I felt I wasn't getting any clear answers. Wow I'm long winded, sorry! I don't know if my suggestion would work but I thought I'd throw it out there.
A dedicated introductory thread could manage newbies better...
